The Most Addictive Video Game Ever?
by admin on Oct.01, 2009, under Uncategorized
First of all, I’m not counting any flash/java based online games that get forwarded around in office emails.
These are only usually played because there’s nothing better to do. I’m talking about console/PC games that you would play at home.
- World of Warcraft
First of all, I don’t like this game. In fact I hate it. That being said, I don’t dare ever play it, for I fear that I’d get so addicted to it, I’d never see the light of day again. I feel like Frodo and WOW is the ring. This game is a serious life-wrecker. When I was in university, one of my best friends went from being the biggest party animal I knew, to dropping out halfway through due to this game. It simply consumed him. I will also never forget the image of being in an internet cafe at 1am, and seeing a guy huddled up on a computer chair whilst in a sleeping bag, with the WOW title screen displayed on his computer.
- Tetris
This game needs no introduction. One of the most intuitive and easy games to pick up, it’s easy to see why people are drawn to this game. The phrase ‘A minute to learn, and lifetime to master’ has never been so applicable. The fact that it’s popularity hasn’t waned in over 20 years says it all.
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
What makes this so addictive is the constant challenges you can unlock, and the rewards you can accomplish. The temptation is to just ‘try and get up one more level’ before quitting.
- Football Manager/Championship Manager
This game is the king of them all, for me. Mainly because I love soccer/football. Also, because the game never ends, and there’s no defining end points in a season, you carry on forever – As soon as one season ends you’re buying players for the next season. Once you’ve bought these players you can’t help trying them out for a few games. Before you know it it’s the start of the next season and the cycle continues.
