Can Modern Warfare 2 live up to the hype?

With the imminent release of one of the most hotly anticipated games of the year, we ask ‘can Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 really live up to the hype?’ The new game looks to be fairly ambitious, taking you on a huge adventure to the far corners of the globe, from Rio de Janeiro to the Antarctica. The multiplayer also looks set to be improved, with custom kill streaks the big new feature. It has to be said also, that the graphics look stunning. I was blown away when the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game came out, and I am equally blown away this time. I have no doubts that the game will look amazing on a large 1080p HD TV.
It’s true that the world, and especially the gaming world has changed. Ten years ago when a game was released, you’d of only ever seen a few brief screenshots of it and maybe read a review before deciding to buy. Nowadays, you can follow the progress of development closely, watch endless clips on YouTube, read endless previews and reviews on IGN and Gamespot, and even sometimes see inside the development thanks to video diaries. This means you can now know more than ever about a new game before it’s released. This also means you can know what you’re getting before you buy, reducing the chance of disappointment. This is true for most games, but not Modern Warfare 2. The fact that the video and gameplay footage that’s been released has looked so spectacular, and the information regarding gameplay features has got everyone salivating has only increased the hype, and taken it up a level.
They say that you should never meet your heroes, because they can never live up to your
expectations. That’s a similar thing that’s occurring with this game. However, I do believe that many gamers can handle their expectations appropriately, and will judge the game fairly, and on it’s merits. Despite that, the game will always be compared to its predecessor, and although I have no doubts that it’ll exceed it in terms of quality, I can’t see it realistically having the same impact that the first game made, and will therefore be judged slightly unfairly.

Basically, MW2 is only going to have matchmaking and peer-to-peer networking. No custom servers, mods, etc.
I cancelled my pre-order
Oh well…. goodbye modding community and competitive MW2

Steam seems to have followed Xbox Live on the ban band wagon. They banned 2500 PC gamers caught cheating on Modern Wrfare 2, and they say this is only the first round. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/so-long-2500-modern-warfare-2-steam-cheaters/
